Geomechanics Engineer
The Geomechanics Engineer is responsible for assisting in delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable products and services to our customers. The job consults with operations groups as needed to support the area of expertise and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of product and service delivery and formally communicates findings. The Geomechanics Engineer actively participates in promoting new technology and services offerings and supports the PL in risk management and applying lessons learned to improve job design and execution as related to the area of expertise. They provide real-time support to operations as required.
Role Overview
• Provide geomechanics expertise to support drilling, completion, production, and CCS/CCUS projects across the asset lifecycle
• Apply rock mechanics, stress analysis, and coupled physics modeling to reduce subsurface risk and optimize field development
• Work within integrated subsurface teams, collaborating with reservoir, geology, drilling, and production engineers
Key Responsibilities
• Build and calibrate 1D/3D Mechanical Earth Models (MEMs) using well logs, seismic, lab data, and field observations
• Perform wellbore stability, sand production, fault reactivation, and compaction/subsidence analyses
• Support drilling and completion design through safe mud window, casing setting depth, and fracture gradient studies
• Conduct geomechanics assessments for CCS/CCUS projects, including caprock integrity, fault stability, and pressure management
• Execute coupled geomechanics–reservoir simulations (e.g., depletion, injection, and stress-path analysis)
• Integrate geomechanics with seismic interpretation, geostatistics, and reservoir models
• Provide technical recommendations to mitigate drilling hazards and production risks
• Support client workshops, technical reviews, and decision meetings
• Contribute to proposal preparation, technical presentations, and project documentation
Digital & Software Expertise
• Use SLB and industry tools such as Petrel Geomechanics, VISAGE, or equivalent
• Perform seismic-to-geomechanics workflows including stress orientation and fracture characterization
• Apply Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting for automation, data QC, and advanced analysis (preferred)
• Leverage digital workflows and cloud platforms for integrated subsurface studies
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum Master’s degree in Geomechanics, Rock Mechanics, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or related discipline
• 0-3– years of experience in oil & gas subsurface geomechanics (experience level flexible based on role)
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, stress analysis, poroelasticity, and fracture mechanics
• Experience in offshore, unconventional, or CCS/CCUS projects is an advantage
Preferred
• Experience in using subsurface interpretation and modeling software.
• Experience in using basin modeling software and technical understanding of play-based exploration workflows.
• Familiarity with emerging energy domains such as geothermal or carbon capture and storage (CCS).
• Exposure to machine learning applications in subsurface interpretation.
• Track record of technical publications or presentations in industry and academic forums.
• Willingness and ability to commit to working in Korea for a minimum of five years. Ability to travel and adapt to different project environments.
• Native-level proficiency in Korean or equivalent communication skills.
• Proficiency in English is required
