Position: Research Analyst (“RA”, Full-time offer based on performance)

Division: Investment Team

Job Location: One IFC 13F (Seoul)

 

Program Period:

Investment Team RA program expected to last between Mar 2, 2024 – Aug 31, 2024 (Negotiable)
 

About Align Partners Capital Management:

Established in 2021, Align Partners Capital Management (“Align Partners” or “APCM”) is a Korea-based investment management firm applying a different private equity (“PE”) approach to public stock market, comprised of experienced professionals with a deep knowledge of the Korean market and a strong track record of PE buyouts, portfolio management, and M&A experiences from leading global financial institutions.

Adopting a unique hybrid strategy, incorporating that of private equity and activist hedge funds, APCM invests in a small number of high conviction public companies for a long-term. APCM’s in-depth / PE style bottom-up research approach to value investing and shareholder engagement strategy allow attractive long-term risk-adjusted returns. Where possible/needed, APCM seeks to partner with companies to unlock value and/or create catalysts through active PE style engagement by leveraging its deep local network and expertise.

• Listed Korean Banks (Jan.2023 / Jan.2024): Public shareholder campaign on all 7 listed Korean banks
• JB Financial Group (May.2022): Acquired a 14.0% stake in JBFG from Anchor Equity Partners
• SM Entertainment (Mar.2022): Public shareholder campaign. Appointed an auditor and reached an agreement with the management to enhance corporate governance, shareholder policy and operations
• Woori Financial Group (Nov.2021): Acquired a 1.0% stake participating in the privatization of WFG

 

Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate would demonstrate the following:

• Preferred: Prior internship experience in private equity, investment banking or equity research
• Preferred: Strong written and verbal communication skills both in Korean and English
• Minimum of six completed semesters for undergraduate students
• Strong enthusiasm in investing and business analysis
• Valuation & modelling skills with essential finance / accounting knowledge and high proficiency in Excel
• Attention to details & teamwork skills / mindset
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills supported by good reasoning and multi-tasking ability
• Finance related certificates (ex. Certified Investment Manager, Chartered Financial Analyst, etc.)

 

Job Responsibilities:

RA(s) in investment team will have a unique opportunity to work with highly seasoned and successful investment professionals and will support the team in various stages of the investment process.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Active engagement in live transactions, including both PE style investments and activism campaigns; sourcing, structuring, and executing a variety of private transactions, such as leveraged buyout, significant minority investment, convertibles, etc.
• Identifying investment opportunities through financials-based screening and in-depth research
• Financial analysis by constructing return models and conducting valuation of target companies
• Preparation of information memorandum (“IM”) and other internal & external presentation materials
• Participation in conference calls and meetings with industry experts, companies, and advisors
